The Yonge & Eglinton area has become one of the Greater Toronto Area’s most prominent business and retail hubs – with a truly stunning array of new condos & homes dotting its landscape.
Area Profile
As its name suggests, the intersection of Yonge St & Eglinton Ave forms the core of this Midtown Toronto district. Both streets are lined with an array of office buildings, shops and restaurants – although Yonge offers a more pedestrian-friendly environment. Eglinton Park sits just to the west, while a smattering of smaller parks and parkettes dot the surrounding landscape. In terms of shopping, RioCan’s Yonge-Eglinton Centre anchors the northwest corner of the aforementioned intersection. Additionally, Loblaws, Metro and Farm Boy have locations within walking distance.
Transportation at Yonge & Eglinton
Eglinton subway station sits at the heart of the area, and is one of the Toronto Transit Commission’s largest hubs. In addition to providing a one-seat ride to Downtown Toronto via Line 1 Yonge-University, bus routes radiate out from the station to a huge swathe of the city. While the number of direct bus connections will be reduced in the coming years, it will be for a very good reason: the opening of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Two stations along the new line (at Yonge/Eglinton and at Mount Pleasant) will provide coverage to all of the new condos & homes being built in the area. From either one, much of Midtown Toronto will be a one-seat ride away, while Pearson Airport will be accessible via a transfer at Mount Dennis station.
