A true mosaic of cultures, the formerly-independent city of North York includes a diverse array of neighborhoods, with each one boasting numerous options for resale condos and homes.
Neighborhood Profile
Yonge Street continues to serve as North York’s main north-south thoroughfare, and North York City Centre-one of the Greater Toronto Area’s largest employment centres-has grown up around it between Sheppard and Finch Avenues. In the south, Bridle Path and the areas around it have become some of the region’s most upscale communities, while the Don River Valley offers a scenic landscape throughout. Anchored by Bayview Village and its popular shopping centre, the Sheppard Avenue corridor between Yonge and Victoria Park has become a hub for luxury shopping centres and new high-rise condominium communities. At the same time, areas to the west have maintained their tranquil character, with single-family homes continuing to dominate the landscape.
Transportation in North York
Subway service is available on Yonge Street through the spine of the district, while further west destinations such as Yorkdale Shopping Centre and York University are directly connected to the network. Both branches are served by Line 1 Yonge-University, which offers direct access to Downtown Toronto. East-west service is available via Line 4 Sheppard between Yonge and Don Mills Road. The area is crisscrossed by local bus routes-virtually all of which terminate or originate at subway stations. GO Transit operates large regional bus terminals at Yorkdale and York Mills subway stations, with service being available to destinations throughout the GTA. Several GO rail stations are also located in the area, providing direct access to Downtown Toronto. To the benefit of drivers, Highways 400, 401, 404 and the Don Valley Parkway all pass through North York.
