Peel Region contains a number of the Greater Toronto Area’s top destinations, as well as some of its most prominent municipalities. Situated to the west of Toronto and York Region, it is home to the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, as well as the town of Caledon. Having grown to become one of the largest cities in Canada, Mississauga boasts numerous notable neighborhoods and amenities. Mississauga City Centre serves as the city’s main business district (and is anchored by Square One Shopping Centre, city hall and a number of new high-rise condo buildings – within which units available for resale can be found), while Port Credit is a historic pedestrian-friendly district nestled along the Lake Ontario shoreline.
To the north, Brampton has also grown from being solely a suburban bedroom community into a thriving city in its own right. With a pedestrian-friendly environment, Brampton’s historic downtown serves as the anchor of a municipality that aims to transform itself in the coming years. Finally, Caledon offers a living experience that is much more tranquil than its neighbors to the south. With the exception of Bolton, virtually all of the rest of the town consists of either farmland or housing developments that blend together the best of rural and suburban living.
Transportation Options in Peel Region
Mississauga is served by three GO Transit rail lines, with the Lakeshore West, Milton and Kitchener lines offering direct service to Downtown Toronto (the Kitchener Line also serves Brampton). All three lines are supplemented by robust bus networks operated by Mississauga Transit (MiWay) and Brampton Transit, with both agencies boasting bus rapid transit routes along major corridors. In addition, the new Hurontario LRT will be built along one of Peel Region’s most prominent thoroughfares, connecting Port Credit GO station, Mississauga City Centre, the new Shoppers World Brampton redevelopment and eventually Downtown Brampton. Finally, Highways 401, 403, 407 and 410 all run through Peel Region, while Pearson Airport is readily accessible from any of its three municipalities.
