Etobicoke has the most “suburban” feel of Toronto’s major districts, but at the same time it is home to some of the city’s largest high-density residential and cultural nodes – with many resale condos and homes for sale in close proximity to each.
District Profile
From Long Branch to Mimico, the string of neighborhoods along Lake Ontario offer peaceful and family-friendly living, with a host of parks and waterfront paths dotting the landscape (with Samuel Smith Park being the most notable recreational feature). Further east, Humber Bay is notable for its luxurious high-rise buildings and picturesque waterfront parks, and has grown to be one of the Greater Toronto Area’s most sought-after residential locations – something is only expected to increase once the new Park Lawn GO station is built in the area. Situated north of Bloor Street West, The Kingsway area has long been known as one of Toronto’s most exclusive residential communities, with tree-lined streets and historic homes predominating here. Along Bloor Street, Islington-City Centre is home to modern condos and a wide variety of shops and restaurants that showcase the area’s diversity. To the south, the Queensway area is a hotbed of new pre construction and under-construction condo communities, with a huge variety of units being for sale here.
From north to south, the Humber River Trail provides a convenient location for walking and cycling, while the river itself is a popular destination for water sports. A number of other recreational areas are scattered throughout the community, with virtually any athletic or relaxation need being easily satisfied here. Other popular destinations in Etobicoke include Pearson Airport, Centennial Park, both campuses of Humber College (one in the north that is shared with the University of Guelph, and one in the south along the lake), Woodbine Racetrack, several golf courses and a long list of parks easily accessible to all.
Transportation Options in Etobicoke
Line 2 Bloor Danforth runs through the district’s centre, and its terminus at Kipling Station offers connections to MiWay bus routes as well as express service to Pearson Airport. The Lakeshore East line runs in the south, with stations at Mimico and Long Branch. The Kitchener and Milton lines each have one stop in the community (at Kipling and Etobicoke North, respectively). In addition, the northern reaches of the district are slated to be served by the Finch West LRT upon its opening in 2023. For drivers, Highway 401, Highway 427 and the Gardiner Expressway are all conveniently located.
